📖 Glossary
Critical Third Party (CTP)
Under the UK's Critical Third Parties regime (effective November 2024), a designation applied by the FCA and Bank of England to technology providers deemed systemically important to the financial sector. CTP-designated providers become subject to direct regulatory oversight, including the power to impose requirements and conduct inspections.
Context
The CTP regime primarily targets the largest cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Fund managers using CTP-designated infrastructure face indirect regulatory risk. Self-hosted infrastructure is not subject to CTP designation because no third-party provider is involved.
